eCopy Boosts Support for Peripherals

eCopy Inc. is seeking to help businesses use their copiers as vehicles to get paper documents into enterprise applications.

The Nashua, N.H., companys software is already embedded in Canon U.S.A.s ImageRunner multifunction peripherals, but eCopy is now extending its architecture to work on any digital copier or scanner.

eCopys Open Platform lets applications access paper documents using eCopy software either embedded in a digital copier or running on an external system connected to a digital copier or scanner.

While many copier and multifunction device makers already offer document workflow, the solutions tend to be proprietary. eCopys new architecture lets ISVs access the companys imaging services by developing one software connector for all platforms.

Merrill Corp. maintains more than 1,000 multifunction printers from multiple vendors and provides on-site document services for legal firms. “We have some situations where we go to a client where they have a mishmash of Ricohs, Canons and Xeroxes, and they say, We need you to manage workflow. In the past, we couldnt use eCopy, but now we can,” said Brad Smuland, Merrills senior vice president of IT for document management solutions, in St. Paul, Minn.

Open Platform products are due in May. Prices will range from $2,995 to $6,995.
