Xandros has long been a major player when it comes to taking Linux and open-source technologies and making them easy for non-techie people to use. With Presto, they are taking a stealth approach to work with Windows systems but to make it more attractive to boot into Presto as opposed to Windows.

When installed on a Windows system, Presto provides users a choice at boot time of Presto or Windows. Since Presto is a lightweight and runs in memory, it boots much faster then Windows. Once in Presto, users have access to browsers, chat tools, media files, all their Windows files and document editing tools. And Presto runs well on older hardware.

At DEMO 09, I spoke with Xandros Product Marketing Manager Jordan Smith about Presto and its capabilities.
