Google has started giving away seven Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphones as part of its Google Nexus Challenge, according to the company’s @googlenexus Twitter account.

It’s a daily puzzle contest, with Google giving away a phone a day to the winner, starting on Nov. 12 and ending on Nov. 21, a Monday.

That could point to its availability date to the broader public. Or not. Verizon, which is offering the Galaxy Nexus this year, likes to launch phones on Thursdays or Fridays.

The Galaxy Nexus, as many of you reading this likely already know, is the first Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” phone, offering a 4.65-inch, HD 720p (1,280-by-720) Super AMOLED display and powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core chip.

ICS borrows some of the Android “Honeycomb” tablet user interface intricacies for the smartphone form factor, and includes Android Beam NFC capabilities and facial detection for lock/unlock screens.

Here is Google’s first tweeted challenge: Submit Challenge 1 response as: ‘#GalaxyNexus is well-traveled, coming to @googlenexus from [answer]’. Here is the puzzle:

Challenge 2, which ran Sunday (yesterday), was to make a video or picture of something “geeky and edible.”

The Challenge is running in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain and South Korea. Google explained:

Those who try the challenge must reply to the Google Nexus question tweet with the #googlenexus hashtag and must answer within the cozy confines of a 140-character tweet.

The first entrant to submit an accurate answer will be considered the potential winner. Carefully read the full challenge rules here.
