Some folks who have been waiting for an alternative to Facebook and enjoy the newly minted Google+ social network enough to want to move their data their have a few options.

You may have already heard that Facebook blocked Facebook Friend Exporter, a Chrome extension that automates the extraction of user data, and Open-Xchange’s Social OX, which lets users take their contact list to other services such as Google+.

Another Chrome extension that has yet to be blocked is Amiworks’ Move Your Photos (formerly called Move2Picasa, which lets users migrate their Facebook photos over to Picasa Web Albums, which is the repository for photos in Google+. Download it from the Chrome Web Store.

I used it two weeks ago to great success. After downloading the extension, I clicked the Move Your Photos icon, which then prompted me to connect to Facebook. When I first tried it, it told me it had to approve me before agreeing to migrate my photos.

After selecting all of my Facebook photos to be shuttled–you can check all or certain pics–I checked back a day later and the extension had sucked up all of my mobile photos uploaded to Facebook from my Motorola Droid X. It worked beautifully, which is all you want in a free Web application like this:

My point is that if anyone was wary that Move Your Photos is some spam sucker, it’s not. It’s legit, it works and its free. Enjoy it while it lasts, as 4,371 users have already done so.

There’s no telling when Facebook will find a way to jettison it for scraping data it so closely guards.
