Bring Nick Douglas back, please.
Sure, the kid looked like a tiny version of Egon Spengler, but in Silicon Valley that’s practically centerfold material. And he was funny. But Nick Denton? Dude is way too serious.
Denton, who founded and owns Valleywag and the rest of the Gawker Media weblog empire, announced on Monday he was temporarily replacing the 23-year-old Douglas at the Silicon Valley gossip rag. Denton didn’t specify a reason exactly, but subsequent reports from various sources hint that Denton wasn’t happy with Valleywag’s traffic.
Denton also said he wanted Valleywag to concentrate on “more money, less sex.” Silly rabbit, money is sex. Didn’t you learn anything in millionaire school?
Anyway, the tenuous rationale for posting about this: Denton’s apparent shock that New York Times’ reporters prep Google PR flacks with possible questions and topics before an interview. Then he followed up with this snippy bit on John Battelle. And then another, in which he says John Battelle looks like George Hamilton.
Sigh, why don’t you two just get it over with and make out? Or please, let Nick Douglas go back to writing stories about Larry bumping uglies with Marissa.
