IT managers looking for a desktop firewall with comprehensive rule sets and network customization options should check out CrossTecs NetOp Desktop Firewall 3.0, which was released in December.

The firewall is priced at $59 per system and supports Windows XP Home/Professional and Windows 2000 Professional.

NetOp Desktop Firewalls filtering algorithms run at the NDIS driver level, protecting client PCs before Windows loads. NetOps bidirectional ports and protocol blocking allow configuration of tighter system security. I could also set up trusted networks for secure applications, as well as stealth ports to “hide” computers from network hackers.

There is a longer learning curve if you want to set up granular policies and port filtering, but after initial setup, much user intervention isnt required. For the roaming user, NetOp will detect the different networks and automatically apply firewall settings. Check out www.crossteccorp.com.
