Hoping to gain an edge on its myriad competitors, Passlogix Inc. on Wednesday will announce a new product strategy in which all of its future offerings will be released as modules that plug into v-GO SSO, the companys flagship single sign-on solution.

The platform is the first offering of its kind in the security market and is designed to allow enterprises to drop in future modules from Passlogix easily while also integrating with third-party directories, repositories and provisioning systems.

The first module available for the v-GO Platform is v-GO Self Service Password Reset, which was announced earlier this year. The password offering lets users reset their own passwords without calling the help desk through the use of a series of questions and a confidence-based scoring system that is designed to differentiate between legitimate users and impostors.

The new platforms foundation is v-GO SSO 5.0, which Passlogix also will announce Wednesday. The latest release includes a number of security enhancements as well as added support for several popular directories and databases, such as Microsoft Corp.s SQL Server, IBMs DB2 and the full line from Oracle Corp.

Among the new security features is the ability to detect and prevent attempts by unauthorized users to tamper with configuration and credential information. Version 5.0 also can force users to change their passwords at predetermined intervals, even for applications that dont require this policy.

Passlogix made the move to the platform architecture partly as a way to ease integration with other vendors solutions, company officials said.

“Customers want to address the larger identity management picture in their organizations, and this will help them do that,” said Marc Boroditsky, president and CEO of Passlogix, based in New York. “It will allow us to be provisioned by the leading identity management platforms. Customers know that the approach that works best needs to be best-of-breed.”

As for future modules for the platform, the company plans to release the Strong Authentication Management module in the fourth quarter. This offering is designed to eliminate the need for password authentication and supports a variety of tokens, smart cards and biometric authentication methods.
