Up to 80 percent of spam messages are sent from Trojan-infected home PCs, according to according to security firm Sandvine Inc. Many recent worm attacks were created to install spam Trojans, the company said.

“As a complement to existing mail server and client-based tools, service providers need to arm themselves with network-based anti-spam defenses,” said Marc Morin, co-founder and chief technology officer at Sandvine, in a statement.
