Computer maker Lenovo announced the Nov. 5 launch of the ThinkServer TD330, which can support up to 16 cores based on the Intel Xeon E5-2400 processor family and is designed to handle behind-the-scenes IT tasks for small and midsize businesses. The TD330 offers standard features such as on-board RAID, on-board diagnostics, hot-swap support and Web-enabled remote management.

The ThinkServer TD330 starts at $929 and is available through Lenovo’s Website and business partners.

The appliance features up to 192GB of memory, a variety of hard-drive and network-card choices, and advanced RAID options with battery backup and cache. The Energy Star-compliant models, which feature low-voltage processor and memory choices, can help small businesses reduce energy costs, the company said. The TD330 also fits into a hybrid environment, designed with industry-standard IPMI 2.0-compliant protocols and interfaces, and offers scalability and flexible system configurations.

The ThinkServer TD330 is the first product from Lenovo’s Enterprise Product Group, a business unit that focuses on expanding the company’s server, storage, networking and software offerings. The EPG will be led by Roy Guillen, who will serve as vice president and general manager. “We’ve placed expanded emphasis on building our server portfolio this year, introducing products that meet the needs of all our customers—from enterprise customers to small businesses,” Guillen said in a statement. “The ThinkServer TD330 meets the needs of an organization that demands flawless dual-socket performance in a flexible, scalable tower solution, and values the reliability and sturdiness that ThinkServer products are known for.”

The TD330 also features EasyStartup, EasyUpdate and EasyManage; a suite of software tools makes it possible to set up, configure and manage the server with minimal IT support. EasyStartup is an assistant that simplifies the process of installing and configuring the server and allows organizations to keep existing business data during the installation process. After the installation process, EasyManage server monitoring and management tools help to maintain peak performance by simplifing the most frequent management issues for IT administrators. For customers who require powerful remote-manageability tools, the ThinkServer TD330 also offers a management module premium with iKVM, allowing IT staff to monitor and control the server from any location.

In addition, the TD330 is supported by a services portfolio designed for ThinkServer products, including warranty support upgradeable to four-hour on-site 24/7 response and the ability to deploy custom Windows imaging and BIOS settings at the Lenovo factory. Other services include secure, automatic online data backup, a Keep Your Drive (KYD) service that allows businesses to retain the drive and confidential data if the drive must be replaced, and asset-tagging and asset-recovery services that can help mitigate the environmental and data-security risks associated with end-of-life asset disposal.
