Gateway Inc. on Monday introduced three business PCs designed for easy expandability and serviceability, featuring a new graphite-and-platinum styling that stands in stark contrast to the companys earlier light-beige or white boxes.

The new systems, part of Gateways E-Series product line, use a tool-less entry design to offer system managers easier access to internal components for adding expansion cards and memory or for servicing and replacing parts.

The E-2000 and E-4000, offered at base prices of $849 and $1,049, respectively, are available in two designs: the standard micro-tower three-bay convertible chassis, or the optional six-bay mid-tower. Both systems offer additional expandability through six USB 2.0 ports (two on the front and four in the back) on the tower.

The high-end E-6000, priced starting at $1,399, features a 7-bay tower case, five PCI slots and six USB 2.0 ports.

The E-4000 and E-6000 also feature AGP slots for optional 32MB or 128MB add-on graphics cards.

The entry-level E-2000 comes with a 1.8GHz Celeron processor from Intel Corp., 128MB of PC2100 DDR SDRAM, 20GB Ultra ATA hard drive and 15-inch monitor.

The base configured E-4000 features a 1.8GHz Pentium 4 processor, 128MB of PC2100 DDR SDRAM, 40GB Ultra ATA100 hard drive and 17-inch monitor.

The E-6000 base-configuration comes with a 2GHz Pentium 4 chip, 256MB of PC800 Rambus DRAM, 40GB Ultra ATA100 hard drive and 17-inch monitor.

All three systems are available with Intels LANDesk Client Manager and built-in sensors to monitor vital system functions. In addition, Wake-On-LAN technology can power on computers via a network server, enabling IT managers to perform routine maintenance remotely and during non-work hours.

Gateway, of Poway, Calif., also offers training, network installation and support for its business PCs through the companys nearly 300 Gateway Country stores and service providers nationwide.
