IBM on Wednesday announced capacity and speed upgrades for its mid-range enterprise storage and its low-end network-attached storage, officials said.

The changes are routine annual hardware upgrades, said product manager David Vaughn.

IBMs TotalStorage FAStT 200, 500, and 700 models will have new 146.8GB drives, shipping Nov. 22. That doubles the systems capacity to 9TB for the 200, and to 32.8TB for the 500 and 700, he said. FAStT pricing information was not immediately available.

On the network-attached front, the Armonk, N.Y., company is launching the NAS 200 25T, to replace the existing 201 and 226 editions. The new version runs at 2.4GHz, versus 1.13GHz before. It also uses the new 146.8GB drives, for up to 7TB of raw capacity, using SCSI interfaces. It starts at $17,295 for 220GB.

The NAS Gateway 300 G27 has the same specifications but uses Fibre Channel connections, which are now 2G bps, with auto-sensing adapters from Aliso Viejo, Calif.s QLogic Corp. It replaces the G26 version and starts at $63,100.

Both of the new NAS versions also ship Nov. 22, and both have optional TCP/IP offload engines, from Alacritech Inc., of San Jose, Calif. That option costs $1,465 each.

The NAS products software will be upgraded next summer to use Microsoft Corp.s Server Appliance Kit 3.0, Vaughn said. The current version from Microsoft is 2.0.1.
