StoneFly Networks Unveils Storage Concentrator i3000

StoneFly Networks Inc. recently introduced Storage Concentrator i3000, an addition to the companys flagship product line that lets organizations transform Ethernet networks into IP SANs. The i3000 is standards-compliant and offers an Intel Xeon 3GHz processor and dual Gigabit Ethernet ports for active load balancing of I/O traffic, the company said. Storage Concentrator i3000 will be available this month with pricing starting at $13,995 for a single-unit configuration and $19,995 for a failover cluster-pair configuration.

AppIQ Revamps SAN Management Suite

Startup AppIQ Corp. recently debuted the third version of its standards-based SAN management software suite—now called StorageAuthority—that packs in a number of new features, including file-based storage resource management (SRM). AppIQ said the new version can monitor a customers storage environment from applications all the way down to the spindles. In addition to its SRM module, the new version provides rule-based provisioning capabilities and supports additional devices, including for EMC Corp.s storage systems and SAN switches.

Storage Business

Storage, Grids, Intelligence Boom in Q3

Vendors spent nearly $12.2 billion last quarter to buy technology companies in the third quarter as storage, business intelligence and grid computing sectors rocked with action, according to the latest research from The 451 Group. In the storage area, buyers spent eight times more than they spent in the entire first half of the year to acquire 10 storage hardware and software companies. Storage systems giant EMC took the grand prize when it purchased data archiving specialist Legato Systems for $1.3 billion.

A Last Gasp for StorageNetworks?

There may be life in StorageNetworks Inc. after all. The once red-hot “storage-on-demand” company was disappearing into the dustbin after it announced it would liquidate earlier this summer. The life, however, may exist solely in its stock and not in future products or sales. Gabelli Asset Management keeps buying the stock of the dying firms stock, now owning at least 9.6 percent of it. Another new buyer of StorageNetworks stock is Bear, Stearns & Co., purchasers of more than 5 percent of the stock.
