Today’s topics include Microsoft revamping its Sets feature in the Windows 10 Redstone 5 update, and Nutanix adding SDN features to its cloud software stack.

Microsoft’s next major Windows 10 feature update, code-named Redstone 5, was released May 9 to members of the Windows Insider early-access program and features a revamped version of Sets, which allows users to group various applications into a single window using a tabbed interface. In the new build, Sets will offer users the choice of opening apps and websites in a new tab or window. If a webpage within a Sets grouping begins to play audio, a volume icon appears, allowing users to mute it.

Windows 10 is also getting a clipboard that both remembers and can be accessed by other devices. “Not only can you can paste from the clipboard history, but you can also pin the items you find yourself using all the time,” said Windows Insider lead Dona Sarkar and Senior Program Manager Brandon LeBlanc.

Nutanix last week at its .NEXT Conference announced the addition of Flow into its Enterprise Cloud OS software platform, bringing software-defined networking functionality around network management and application security.

Flow includes technology Nutanix inherited from the acquisition of Netsil earlier this year and is designed to secure applications that run in both public and private clouds as enterprises increasingly move to a distributed computing environment.

Nutanix officials also announced new software-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service offerings, including Beam, which enables enterprises to better manage their use of multiple public clouds through analytics and visibility into cloud consumption and costs, and Era, which enables single click database operations, from integrated snapshot capabilities to a clone-and-restore feature for all database transactions.
