Today’s topics include Lenovo partnering with Scale Computing on a new hyperconverged infrastructure solution, and Pagely NorthStack making WordPress serverless.

Lenovo and Scale Computing have teamed up on a hyperconverged infrastructure solution that combines Lenovo servers with Scale’s HCI platform. Available now is Scale Computing HC3 Edge Platform on Lenovo Servers, which is aimed at midsize companies and edge computing environments.

The offering gives companies a simple, intelligent and highly integrated on-premises system that can be placed on the network edge closer to where the workloads are being run and data is being generated.

Wilfredo Sotolongo, vice president and general manager of IoT for Lenovo’s Data Center Group, said the new offering provides an edge computing infrastructure that can run a broad array of workloads and “is space conscious and can be managed at each individual location by generalists. This reduces the time and budget spent managing technology and allows companies to focus more on growing their business and serving their customers.”

Thanks to a new effort from managed WordPress hosting provider Pagely, WordPress is going serverless in an attempt to lower the fixed costs and infrastructure needed to deploy and run the blogging and content management system.

The new NorthStack platform disaggregates the usual stack that WordPress requires into a series of services that largely run on serverless infrastructure at Amazon Web Services.

According to Joshua Strebel, CEO of Pagely, the NorthStack approach does not rewrite WordPress for a different stack; rather it uses the Amazon Aurora Serverless database alongside Docker containers to containerize various aspects of the WordPress hosting platform. “It’s like a bridge between the old legacy WordPress code base and the modern stack,” he said.
