Your TV is about to get a lot smarter… and a little more creative.

At CES 2026, Google revealed new Gemini AI features coming to Google TV that aim to make the big screen more interactive, from answering questions to adjusting settings and even creating images and video on demand. 

The update brings Gemini’s Nano Banana and Veo tools to select TVs, along with voice controls that let users adjust picture and sound without digging through menus. Google said the features will roll out first on select TCL Google TV models, with broader availability planned later this year. 

Gemini comes to the big screen 

Google said Gemini on Google TV was built specifically for large screens, focusing on visual responses and hands-free interaction. In a recent announcement, Google noted that Gemini could deliver rich overviews with images, video clips, and real-time information, making it easier to explore topics without needing a phone or laptop. 

The company also highlighted a new “Deep dives” experience that provides longer, more detailed explanations of what you’re watching. These narrated walkthroughs are meant to help viewers explore complex topics while continuing to watch content. 

Google also added that Gemini will integrate more tightly with Google Photos. Users will now be able to search their photo libraries using natural language, instantly apply artistic styles with Photos Remix, and turn images into cinematic slideshows. 

Nano Banana, Veo, and creative features

Google said the update introduces Nano Banana, a Gemini-powered image feature designed to make creative photo generation and transformation accessible from the living room. Users can experiment with different artistic styles and visual effects without needing a separate device. 

The company is also bringing Veo, its latest AI video generator that lets you create high-quality 8-second videos from text prompts or images. Veo allows users to create videos or reimagine existing photos directly on the big screen, making generative AI available beyond phones and PCs.

As TechCrunch reported, Google sees the potential for the TV screen to serve more than just entertainment. Now powered by Gemini, the TV can be used for education, too. 

Google showed how this would work at CES, demonstrating that “when users ask a question about something they want to learn about, the TV screen can offer a deep dive into the topic,” TechCrunch noted. Gemini provides a narrated interactive overview that breaks down complex concepts and lets users ask follow-up questions to learn more.

Voice controls and rollout details

In addition to creative tools, Google emphasized practical improvements aimed at everyday use. For instance, Gemini will allow users to control picture brightness, audio levels, and accessibility settings using voice commands. 

Instead of pausing a show and navigating menus, users can say things like “the screen is too dim” or “I can’t hear the dialogue,” and Gemini will automatically make adjustments.

Google confirmed the new Gemini features will launch first on select TCL Google TV models before expanding to additional devices in the months ahead. The update requires Google TV devices running Android TV OS 14 or later, an internet connection, and a Google account. Availability will vary by region, language, and hardware at launch.
