In the novel and film “Forrest Gump,” the titular character ran for more than three years straight and covered an estimated 15,000 miles within the United States. While this feat is unrealistic for most, a robot known as the AgiBot A2 recently completed a lengthy journey of its own.
Although the robot was only given three days, it managed to travel a record-setting 66 miles. If it were given the same amount of time that Forrest Gump had, this would work out to more than 24,000 miles.
What is the AgiBot A2?
AgiBot, also known as Zhiyuan Robotics, was founded in Shanghai, China, in 2023 to support the launch of the original bipedal robot bearing the same name. Their flagship model has seen numerous updates, upgrades, and optimizations since then, ultimately resulting in several new models over the past few years, including the AgiBot A2.
The robot was specifically designed to match the scale of modern humans. Standing at 169 centimeters (just over 5 feet 6 inches) and weighing 69 kilograms (approximately 152 pounds), the robot is equipped with LIDAR, a built-in microphone, three separate cameras, force/torque sensors on the feet, and a plethora of other useful features.
Moreover, AgiBot A2 is powered by WorkGPT. This multimodal AI platform, developed by the company’s own developers, enables the robot to understand and process text, audio, and visual inputs with 96% accuracy.
Setting a new world record
Developers behind the AgiBot A2 put their model to the test by setting it loose in the streets of Shanghai, and it walked itself right into the Guinness World Records just a few days later.
According to the Guinness World Records, AgiBot A2 achieved “the longest journey walked by a humanoid robot” at 106.286 kilometers, or nearly 349,000 feet. The entire trip lasted from Monday, Nov. 10, to Thursday, Nov. 13. While the recent journey was productive, developers at AgiBot have revealed that the AgiBot A2 was designed for much more than walking around city streets.
A brief description of the AgiBot A2 reads: “Designed based on ergonomic principles, AgiBot A2 delivers a highly natural and comfortable human-robot interaction experience, making it ideal for roles such as marketing and customer service, exhibition hall presentations, supermarket guidance, front desk reception, and business inquiries.”
A virtual jack-of-all-trades
Featuring a combination of next-gen AI and robotics, AgiBot A2 will play a role in shaping the future of workplace automation across the globe.
While its recent entry into the Guinness Book of World Records highlights its durability and mobility, developers also showcased the more practical applications of AgiBot A2 at the 2025 China International Import Expo (CIIE). As expected, the robot excelled at customer service, beverage delivery, and even as a cultural ambassador for China.
