Currency Firm Trades on Open Source

About a year and a half ago, Currenex Inc., a trailblazer in online foreign exchange currency trading, switched to open-source network and system management tools. That change has increased management coverage from one to three locations and has helped accommodate the companys rapid growth. Leaving behind Hewlett-Packard Co.s OpenView suite, Currenex installed the open-source Nagios […]

Help Is on the Way for Project-Based Open-Source Apps

Getting support for project-based open-source applications often requires a hobbyists enthusiasm to get results. Even as some e-mail sender authentication schemes appeared stalled by implementation problems, participants at Inbox, the pre-eminent e-mail confab held earlier this month in San Jose, Calif., discussed server-to-server message authentication mechanisms and focused discussions on ways to combat phishing. Less high-profile, but just as important to IT managers—especially in light of regulatory requirements—are e-mail […]

Virtual Directories Corral IDs

The next big thing in identity management is virtual directories. And we do mean big: big potential for big returns, with big questions still remaining. Virtual directories can significantly change the way identity information is used in midsize and large organizations and can reduce the technical and cost barriers of identity management. However, IT managers […]
