To help enterprises get a better handle on steering large and complex Oracle Corp. databases, Computer Associates International Inc. has rolled out CA Productivity Pack for Oracle.

The Productivity Pack, announced last Tuesday, ties into one common console a set of tools that handle a range of database-management tasks, including modeling, design, administration and performance management.

/zimages/4/28571.gifFollowing a board of directors investigation, CA has fired nine employees. Click here to read more.

One user quoted in the Islandia, N.Y., companys news release said the Productivity Pack helps save time and money by corralling into one console all of the necessary tools.

“With the common console, CAs new Productivity Pack for Oracle provides the tools a database administrator needs all within a mouse click,” Tom Smith, systems administrator for LifeBridge Health, a health-related services provider based in Baltimore, said in the release.

“We are responsible for administering multiple business applications that each have different management requirements, so having a common and consistent set of tools saves time and money and enables greater service levels.”

The tools included are AllFusion Erwin Data Modeler, used to design databases; Unicenter Enterprise DBA, a database administration tool that streamlines and automates daily tasks such as simple “create” or complex “compare-and-synchronize” operations; and Unicenter Fast Unload, an unloading tool to extract database information quickly and efficiently.

/zimages/4/28571.gifAs CAs legal problems continue, its execs insist that the company is on track to dominate the IT infrastructure management market. Click here to read more.

The Productivity Pack also includes Unicenter Database Performance Management, a database performance management tool that automates monitoring, collection and analysis of performance metrics for databases from one point of control; Unicenter SQL-Station, a development tool for creating, editing, testing, debugging, tuning and managing SQL, PL/SQL, Java and server-side database code; and Unicenter TSreorg, which automatically reorganizes online databases to improve their speed and efficiency and also recovers wasted storage by restructuring objects that have become fragmented because of heavy use.

The CA Productivity Pack for Oracle is available immediately. Pricing information was not immediately available.
