MySQL AB is joining forces with two players in the field of clusters, Veritas Software Corp. and SGI, MySQL officials announced Thursday.

MySQL is teaming up with Veritas to integrate, market and support the open-source MySQL database and Veritas Cluster Server. MySQL, of Uppsala, Sweden, will offer a Veritas-qualified MySQL agent on Cluster Server thats designed to help MySQL users maximize system availability and performance. The technology pairing will be previewed at LinuxWorld in San Francisco in August in the MySQL booth. The work is being done through the Veritas Enabled Program.

The Veritas Cluster Server is designed to eliminate application downtime and to increase performance by distributing workload across servers. With the new Veritas Cluster Server agent for MySQL, enterprises will be able to use the Cluster Server to manage MySQL database applications in multi-platform, multi-cluster environments.

The new agent will be available for MySQL Version 3.23 and higher starting in August. It will be offered initially on Linux and will in the future be available on Solaris and HP-UX. MySQL AB and Veritas will cooperatively support joint customers.

MySQL is also joining forces with SGI to optimize, market and sell the MySQL database on the SGI Altix 3000 family of servers and superclusters. The pairing is designed to power heavy-load, high-performance database applications. The two companies are cooperating on engineering optimization, marketing and sales for the Intel Itanium 2-based Altix 3000 supercluster running MySQL on Linux. MySQL on Altix is available immediately.

Like Veritas, SGI will demonstrate enterprise Linux solutions for MySQL in MySQLs booth at LinuxWorld. Also demonstrating will be Arkeia Corp., Computer Associates International Inc. and Emic Networks.
