Pervasive Software Inc.s packaging of the open-source Postgres database has been certified by Novell Inc. for its enterprise Linux server, SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9, the company announced on Thursday.

Pervasive, of Austin, Texas, traditionally in the business of making embedded databases, in January attempted to break into the mainstream corporate database market, choosing the open-source database PostgreSQL as its vehicle.

The company rolled out Pervasive Postgres, which packages Version 8 of the community-maintained open-source PostgreSQL database along with a bundle of connectivity drivers and management tools.

Pervasive is positioning Pervasive Postgres as well-suited for corporate IT departments that build business applications on top of databases.

With the “Yes Certified” designation, software vendors considering migrating or developing business applications on SuSE Linux, Novell Linux Small Business Suite or Novell Open Enterprise Server platforms can now opt to do so on Pervasive Postgres.
