Oracle to Offer Free Database

Guarding itself against the growing popularity of open-source databases, Oracle last week announced the beta release of its free Oracle 10g Express Edition database. The diminutive Oracle Database XE will be available by years end, said Oracle officials. The free low-end software runs on servers featuring a single processor, along with 4GB of disk memory and 1GB of RAM.
