Genuitec LLC this week announced a new suite of application server plug-ins for IBMs WebSphere Application Developer, or WSAD. The suite is designed to enable developers to develop, deploy and debug applications using third-party J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) application servers with the same ease as the WebSphere server.

The plug-ins feature user controls for managing an application server instance from within WSAD runtime or debug contexts, said Todd Williams, vice president of technology at Genuitec, in Plano, Texas.

In addition, the plug-ins allow for automatic creation of application server domain directory, custom deployment descriptors, and Enterprise Java Beans (EJB) bstub and skeleton classes.

The Genuitec tools also allow for debugging of J2EE applications using the WSAD debugger and delivers the ability to support multiple application servers simultaneously within WSAD, Williams said. This enables porting, migration and compatibility testing between application servers using one integrated development environment, he said.

It also means WebSphere developers maintain a familiar usage model that is similar to the WebSphere interaction model.

In addition, Williams said, the plug-ins, known as the Genuitec, WebSphere Application Developer J2EE Plug-ins, also enable the use of the J2EE development features of WSAD without mandating WebSphere as the deployment platform.

Versions of the plug-ins are available for BEA Systems Inc.s WebLogic Server versions 5, 6 and 7.
