According to Simply Hired, COBOL jobs listings increased 101 percent since November 2009. Although COBOL is not very popular for new applications—its number 47 in the TIOBE Index—the increase in job opportunities suggests a growing number of application modernization projects for legacy systems.

JavaScript jobs increased 91 percent since November 2009. JavaScript is the language of the Web—for building Web applications.


Ruby

Ruby jobs increased 70 percent. This dynamic language has become a popular target for developing cloud apps.

Fortran programming jobs decreased 6 percent since November 2009. Fortran is a general-purpose, procedural, imperative programming language that is especially suited to numeric computation and scientific computing.
