Macromedia Inc. Wednesday announced the availability of a free update release of its ColdFusion MX 7 development system with support for Apple Computer Inc.s “Tiger” Mac OS X 10.4 and Mac OS X Server 10.4 platforms.

The Macromedia ColdFusion MX 7 Updater is a free, incremental release that adds new platform support for Mac OS X 10.4 and Mac OS X Server 10.4, as well as updated support for Oracle 10g, Red Hat Linux AS 4, Solaris 10 and IBM WebSphere 5 Network Deployment, the company said. New support for Tiger delivers ColdFusions rapid development capabilities to a new developer base, Macromedia officials said.

Officials at the San Francisco company said since the release of ColdFusion MX 7 in February the development environment has been adopted by thousands of businesses and organizations.

The update release features bug fixes, security fixes and other refinements. Macromedia said many developers use ColdFusion MX 7 to create structured business reports for Web applications and Macromedia Flash forms. Developers also use it to move Web content to portable documents in either Adobe PDF or Macromedia FlashPaper formats.

The free ColdFusion MX 7 Updater is available here.

“Were thrilled that ColdFusion MX 7 now supports Tiger and Tiger Server to enable developers to take advantage of Apple innovation to build and deploy feature-rich Web applications,” said Ron Okamoto, vice president of worldwide developer relations at Apple, in a statement.

Moreover, “the ability of ColdFusion MX 7 to easily generate business reports and print to the Web has cut our report development time in half,” said Robert Burnett, project manager, north region, for the California Department of Transportation, in a statement. “Our ColdFusion MX 7 Web-based project management application helps our 12 district offices, and more than 23,000 employees working on thousands of projects, provide fast and accurate project information and reduce the time needed to manage projects.”
