Command Prompt Inc. has bolstered SSL support and added support for a slew of capabilities in Mammoth PostgreSQL, its commercially supported distribution of the open-source PostgreSQL database.

New features in Mammoth PostgreSQL 7.3.2, standard and deluxe editions, include support for schemas and namespaces, enabling users to create objects in separate namespaces so that two people or applications can have tables with the same name. The product also features a public schema for shared tables.

Also included is support for table functions. Users now can call a table function in the SELECT FROM clause and treat its output like a table. PL/pgSQL functions can also now return data sets.

Mammoth PostgreSQL now supports prepared queries, for improved performance. SSL-based connectivity has also been furnished with better support for encrypted sessions between client and server.

The product now sports support for compressed connection streams and compressed encrypted connection streams, providing efficient connectivity between lower bandwidth clients or highly congested networks, according to officials of the Portland, Ore., company. It also now ships with a uniform Java-based database administrator capable of managing multiple servers at a time.

Features specific to the deluxe edition include one year of free updates, an S/ODBC driver for encrypted and/or compressed ODBC-based connectivity (for the Linux and Win32 versions) and an s/JDBC driver for encrypted and/or compressed JDBC-based connectivity (for all platforms, including Win32, Mac OS X and Red Hat Linux x86).

Included in the price for Mammoth PostgreSQL 7.3.2, standard version is 15 days installation and configuration support. The deluxe version pricing includes 30 days of installation and configuration support.

The Mac OS X 10.2 and Win32 versions will be available May 15. Downloadable versions of the Red Hat Linux x86 version can be obtained here. The standard version sells for $149.95 per server uninstalled and $249.95 per server installed. The deluxe edition is priced at $199.95 per server uninstalled and at $299.95 per server installed.
