Microsoft made available June 11 the Visual Studio Team Foundation Server-Project Server 2007 Connector.
The PS-TFS Connector provides a deeper level of integration between TFS (Team Foundation Server) and Microsoft Office EPM 2007 by streamlining the flow of data between TFS and Project Server 2007, Microsoft officials said.
They said the connector builds on the Project desktop integration and is another step Microsoft, of Redmond, Wash., is taking to help customers bridge the gap between project management and development organizations and to eliminate inefficiencies between the two groups.
At most organizations, information sharing across project management and development organizations has typically been done through meetings, manual reporting and other time-consuming and error-prone processes, the company said.
By improving the flow of data between TFS and Project Server 2007, the PS-TFS Connector gives customers the holistic view and up-to-date information they need to more effectively manage software development projects across their organizations, the company said.
According to a Microsoft Web page describing the technology, the connector is designed to integrate the project management capabilities of VSTS with Project Server 2007. Its been developed by the Visual Studio Team System Rangers in response to customer demand for such a solution. Future versions of Team System will have native integration with Project Server, according to the company.
