Serena Software Inc. has struck a deal to acquire TeamShare Inc., a developer of collaborative software development solutions.
San Mateo, Calif.-based Serena Monday said it will acquire Colorado Springs, Colo.-based TeamShare in a transaction valued at $18 million.
Serena, which sells change management solutions that automate changes to enterprise code and content, bolsters its product line with new collaboration technology and extends the companys reach in the application life cycle management tools arena, company officials said.
TeamShare markets TeamTrack, an intuitive request management system that is integrated with Serenas ChangeMan line of change management solutions. Serena also picks up TeamShares 75 employees.
Serenas acquisition of TeamShare follows by a couple weeks CollabNet Inc.s acquisition of Enlite Networks Inc., of Mountain View, Calif. CollabNet is a Brisbane, Calif., provider of collaborative software development solutions, and Enlite is an enterprise collaboration technology startup with a facility in Chennai, India, which CollabNet will use as an offshore development facility, said CollabNet CEO Bill Portelli.

Portelli said Enlite will add to CollabNets SourceCast collaborative development platform. CollabNet would not disclose financial details of the acquisition. Enlite had 40 employees.
“They had a model of overseas development we could tap into, and we needed a way to double our support team,” he said. “We also get some additional collaborative technologies, and we can tap into their round-the-clock development cycle,” Portelli said.
Gopi Ganapathy, CEO of Enlite, said, “from Enlites perspective, we were interested in doing some joint programs with CollabNet. We were 85 percent developers and engineering, and we knew we needed some sales help.” So it made sense to merge, both company leaders said.
Portelli said SourceCast “co-locates developers anywhere on the planet.” Ganapathy said Enlites strength lies in “taking these software development-centric models and making them work in collaborative situations.”
Also earlier this month, Serena announced a deal with Mercury Interactive Corp., Sunnyvale, Calif., to integrate Serena ChangeMan DS, Software Change Manager for Distributed Systems with the latest version of Mercurys test management software known as TestDirector. The integration means users can do both version control and change management along with testing. This makes sure the testing is aligned with the code base, Serena officials said.
