Telerik, a provider of development tools and solutions for the Microsoft .NET platform, has released a new line of user interface extensions for Microsoft’s ASP.NET MVC Web development environment.
Telerik released the technology as a CTP (Community Technology Preview). The open-source software delivers “a server-based UI extension framework that integrates with client-side UI modules based on the JavaScript library jQuery,” Telerik said in a news release Aug. 12.
For Telerik, this marks “the first time any of its technologies will be made available under an open-source license. These newest ASP.NET MVC extensions will be offered under the Microsoft Public License (MS-PL), the OSI [Open Source Initiative]-approved license used in the distribution of the ASP.NET MVC framework. Under this license, developers can freely use and redistribute the Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC in all projects, both commercial and open source. A commercial license that includes support will also be available,” the company said in the release.
“Telerik is making a dedicated investment in support of the open-source community with this release,” Vassil Terziev, co-CEO of Telerik, said in the statement. “One of our primary goals is to ensure [that] open-source developers not only have the tools they need, but also simple, hassle-free licensing enabling them to confidently use Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC in all MVC projects.”
According to the release:
“ASP.NET MVC is a Microsoft framework enabling developers to build standards-based web applications using the model-view-controller pattern. ASP.NET MVC encourages clear separation of concerns and allows developers to build testable web applications benefiting from complete developer control over the emitted HTML, ultimately creating better performing web sites.“
Telerik also released RadControls for Silverlight 3 on Aug. 12. This latest version of RadControls for Silverlight “takes advantage of new features in Microsoft Silverlight 3, providing support for Microsoft .NET RIA Services and DomainDataSource, validation, and out-of-browser support,” the company said. According to the statement:
““Since 2007, when Telerik released the first-ever third party controls for Silverlight 1.0, we have been closely following the Silverlight release schedule to make sure that our suite supports the latest official version,” said Svetozar Georgiev, co-CEO of Telerik. “We made available a build of RadControls for Silverlight against Silverlight 3 from its early beta stage and are now excited to present the official release of RadControls for Silverlight 3.””Telerik’s release of RadControls for Silverlight 3 allows developers to take advantage of the rich new features and capabilities in Silverlight 3 to efficiently build dynamic enterprise applications,” said Steve Sklepowich, director for Silverlight at Microsoft Corp. “Microsoft is pleased with the various ways partners like Telerik are developing controls for Silverlight 3 that will enable developers to create robust line-of-business applications for the web and desktop.”“
