Spam Overload

For the first time, the majority of e-mail received by businesses is now spam, claims a new report from e-mail security provider MessageLabs. In May, spam accounted for 55.1 percent of the 133.9 million e-mails scanned by the firm. MessageLabs also keeps track of which industries are most vulnerable to spam and found that the accounting industry was hit hardest in May. Similar spam tallies from independent researchers show slightly lower numbers, with several studies showing the spam level at about one in three corporate e-mails.
