Open-source business intelligence company Pentaho has announced the availability of Pentaho AJAX, a tool kit that gives developers capabilities to create scalable, visually rich interactive Web-based BI applications based on Pentahos framework.
The new Asynchronous JavaScript and XML tool kit builds on the technology that was used to develop the Pentaho/Google Maps integration released in October 2006, officials of the Orlando, Fla., company said. The new, updated library, complete with documentation, is available for download here.
Pentahos Open BI Suite enables developers to use the new AJAX library to build Pentaho-based reporting, OLAP (online analytical processing) analysis, dashboards, data mining and data integration applications for stand-alone use or for embedding in existing enterprise applications, Pentaho officials said.
The Pentaho Open BI Suite encompasses reporting, analysis, dashboards, data mining, workflow and BI platform capabilities. This, added to the new capabilities in the AJAX tool kit, can be used to trigger data integration jobs, schedule weekly e-mails, build MDX (multidimensional expression) queries and more, the company said.
“Pentaho AJAX opens up tremendous possibilities for rich, interactive, thin-client interfaces to Pentaho,” said James Dixon, chief technology officer of Pentaho. “Pentahos architecture was designed to easily enable new interfaces like this, and our lack of a legacy technology platform allows us to bring these capabilities to users more quickly than traditional proprietary platforms.”
Indeed, Pentaho AJAX allows for the development of highly interactive, lightweight BI applications that increase speed and responsiveness for end users by providing a thin-client interface as well as minimizing browser refreshes and round trips to the server, Dixon said. In addition, Pentaho AJAX can simplify integration of Pentahos BI modules with other applications by offering the flexibility to integrate applications interactively on the client side, he said.
