Praying For RFID? The Vaticans Prayers Answered

The Vatican Library has begun tagging books with radio frequency identification chips so librarians can keep track of books and perform inventory checks more easily.

The library houses 1.6 million books, ancient manuscripts and the oldest known complete Bible. So far, 30,000 books have been tagged, enabling librarians to use a hand-held device to keep track of their whereabouts.

About 2 million of the 40 million piece collection will be tagged in the near future.
