WINNER

Agilix Labs Inc.
Agilix Gobinder 2005

Agilix GoBinder 2005, this years winner in the Productivity Applications category, stood out for accomplishing a goal that few applications weve seen have managed to achieve: turning Microsoft Corp.s Tablet PC into a productivity-enhancing platform.

GoBinder 2005 enables users to organize bits of information, culled from multiple sources and in different formats, into a common store of data thats amenable to annotation, searching and sharing —as well as syncing with Microsoft Exchange or with Palm OS-based devices.

GoBinder is targeted at the education space and offers integration with Blackboard Inc.s namesake eEducation platform, which enables students to fetch class materials using a handy background sync process thats triggered when the software detects a network connection.

Despite its focus on the education space, this application—which also works well with regular notebook or desktop systems—is a great fit for knowledge workers who need to get a better grip on the various sorts of information they track while carrying out their tasks.

FINALISTS

DataDirect Technologies Inc.
Stylus Studio 6

As XML grows in prominence as a lingua franca for enterprise data transfer and storage, so grows the importance of tools that allow a wider population of designers and administrators to work effectively with XML—a strength of Stylus Studio 6 Release 2 that distinguished it in the Productivity Applications category.

In particular, Excellence judges liked the products solid visual editing capabilities for XML schema files, which make it easier to edit and create a complex XML schema.

The judges also noted Stylus Studio 6s ability to work with tabular XML data visually, drawing on spreadsheet metaphors to provide users with a familiar editing view.

Novell Inc.
Novell Linux Desktop 9

Novells Linux Desktop 9 stands as an impressive example of the way that Linux has matured into a platform thats compelling not only for server machines but also for regular desktop users.

The judges were impressed with the job that Novell has done integrating the many components that make up a desktop Linux system and with the work the company has done linking up the NLD with back-end Novell services such as iFolder.

When considered along with Novells Open Enterprise Server, a finalist this year in our E-Business Foundations category, the NLD completes for Novell a strong server-to-desktop solution for the enterprise.
