Rogue Wave Ships Web Services Beta

Rogue Wave Software Inc. on Monday announced the availability of the beta version of its Web services infrastructure software.

The Boulder, Colo., software development tools company announced that a beta version of its Project Ratchet is available on the companys Web site. Project Ratchet is the latest release supporting Rogue Waves Web services infrastructure strategy and addresses the growing need for businesses to integrate XML and Web services with their existing applications, the company said.

Rogue Wave officials said the Ratchet technology generates C++ components that represent XML documents. The technology does this by automatically building C++ code from XML schemas, thus easing the burden on developers to create XML-enabled programs, officials said. Also, because the documents are based on XML, they can be exchanged with other systems, including Java-based systems or others based on Microsoft Corp.s .Net. They also can be based on Web services systems and others that use standard XML, the company said. Rogue Wave released an alpha version of the Ratchet technology in May on its Technology Access Center.

The Ratchet beta version is available now for download on the Rogue Wave site at roguewave.com/developer/evaluations/ratchet/. In addition, information and downloads for other Rogue Wave Web services initiatives can also be found at roguewave.com/developer/tac .

Company officials said other Rogue Wave Web services initiatives include Bobcat, a C++ servlet container, and Project Persian, for creating C++ Web service consumers and providers.
