Continuing the trend of consolidation in the software market, SSA Global Technologies on Thursday announced its acquisition of Marcam, the ERP (enterprise resource planning) arm of Invensys, for an undisclosed sum.
Chicago-based SSA Global Technologies Inc. provides ERP software and services for more than a dozen vertical markets, while Marcam, of Newton, Mass., makes ERP software specifically geared for process manufacturers.
Process manufacturers include companies that make goods requiring a recipe, such as pharmaceuticals or food and beverages.
Mike Greenough, president, chairman and CEO of SSA Global, said the acquisition will solidify the companys position in the process manufacturing sector and further its expertise in that vertical market.
Marcams software is geared toward optimizing supply chain operations and providing ERP functionality such as financials, order management, purchasing and inventory management.
SSAs software has grown in depth of functionality through a variety of acquisitions over the past couple of years but primarily focuses on ERP and its related capabilities, including CRM (customer relationship management), SRM (supplier relationship management), SCM (supply chain management) and corporate performance management.
While SSA Global officials did not specify a product roadmap for the Marcam acquisition, officials did say they plan to work on “incremental systems modernization,” with a continued focus on the process industries.
SSA Global has been on a bit of a buying spree. Last year, the company acquired Ironside Technologies Inc. in June, Elevon Inc. and Baan in July and EXE Technologies Inc. in December. Baan, which also makes ERP software, was also acquired from Invensys Plc., of London.
On June 14 of this year, SSA Global acquired Arzoon Inc., which makes logistics and global trade management software. Financial terms of that transaction were undisclosed.
