    Vector Keeps Track of Equipment

Vector Networks PC-Duo Asset Management Bundle, which started shipping last month, is a cost-effective way for IT managers to track hardware and software via Windows desktops.

I used the PC-Duo bundle, available through an annual subscription for about $12 per user per year (depending on the number of users), to track my lab equipment neatly and distribute software applications.

The combo inventory system and software distribution tool makes it easy for IT managers at small and midsize operations to get the right number of software licenses. I think PC-Duo is worth consideration by IT managers who need a straightforward desktop asset management tool.

The PC-Duo system comes with a trouble- ticket utility, which enables small companies to get just about everything they need for desktop management, including remote control. I thought the software metering module was slightly more difficult to use than other parts of the bundle, but metering is one of the last things most IT managers need to implement in a small shop because the asset tracking system is more than adequate to monitor software usage.
