In an effort to provide more functionality for enterprise customers looking to build large-scale applications, business logic automation software maker Versata Inc. announced Thursday an upgrade to its namesake application suite.

Versata Logic Suite 5.5 combines business logic and process automation to create and manage business logic for enterprise applications.

The upgrade supports the latest version of Java 2 Enterprise Edition application servers, including IBMs latest application server, WebSphere 4.0, and BEA Systems Inc.s WebLogic 6.1.

Version 5.5 also has an additional logic engine to manage and coordinate business processes, support for more presentation technologies, and better integration with enterprise resources, according to officials.

Versatas latest suite allows customers to specify not only how a transaction should be processed, but also how a transaction should be managed over time. Because Logic Suite 5.5 integrates the core of its Interaction Server, the Process Logic Engine, into the Versata Logic Engine, it more tightly coordinates business transactions and processes, officials said.

In addition, the 5.5 upgrade includes integration with other standard technologies like Web services, XML, Lotus Notes, CICS and IBMs MQ Series through adaptable integration tools called Versata Toolkits.

Versata Logic Suite 5.5 is available now on IBM WebSphere Application Server 4.0 and BEA WebLogic Server 6.1.
