XML has become the lingua franca of business-to-business communications, but a lot of content is not created as XML. And many companies may want to convert invoices, reports and data files into XML without having to invest in an entire BPM platform to do so.

Datawatchs VorteXML Version 3 provides an effective, easy-to-use, Windows-based GUI for converting text-based content into XML files (see screen, below). Version 3 includes many improvements, such as new views for analysis and reports and increased editing options. But the most important new feature by far is the products support for the W3Cs XML Schema standard.

The step-by-step process to load content, define fields, map content and create files seemed somewhat unforgiving at first but soon became second nature, and I could quickly convert even complex data files. I could base XML content on any Document Type Definition that I loaded.

VorteXML runs only on Windows systems and is priced at $600. For more information, go to www.datawatch.com.
