BEA Systems Inc. Monday announced the availability of a new premier version of its application server aimed at customers looking to build services-oriented architectures.

BEA WebLogic Server Process Edition, which the San Jose, Calif., company announced at its eWorld conference in San Francisco in May, converges application development and business process management capabilities in a model BEA calls process-driven development, said Peter Linkin, senior director of product management at BEA.

Meanwhile, Product Manager Herain Oberoi said BEA WebLogic Server Process Edition is the first application server to deliver service enablement, service orchestration and application development from a single integrated development environment.

“The new high-end edition of the server is a customer-driven thing,” Linkin said. “Were looking at the way developers build service-oriented applications and making them more productive.”

Oberoi said BEAs approach differs from others in that it is totally integrated. “Were not just going out and acquiring a company and trying to make their stuff work with our app server.”

The new version of the application server delivers on BEAs Liquid Computing strategy, which is aimed at improving IT responsiveness using business process management and application development to build SOAs.
