BEA Systems Inc. has signed Deloitte Consulting as a global strategic partner, a move expected to boost the application server companys presence in key market areas.

John Gray, vice president of global alliances at BEA, said he expects Deloitte to help increase the San Jose, Calif., companys presence in both the government and consumer markets, as well as others.

Indeed, Gray said Deloitte already is working with BEA to develop BEA-based “repeatable solutions,” including one for business-to-business collaborative commerce. Deloitte recently teamed with BEA to implement BEA WebLogic solutions for consumer-oriented clients, such as Longs Drugs, XO Interactive and DirectTV.

“Deloitte completes the jigsaw for us,” Gray said, noting that BEA has partnerships with several major systems integrators, including KPMG Consulting Inc., PricewaterhouseCoopers and Accenture Ltd. “The alliance with Deloitte Consulting extends BEAs commitment to work with the best companies in the world to meet public sector and commercial market needs for scalable e-business infrastructure solutions.”

As part of the agreement, Deloitte will train its e-business staff on how to implement BEA for real-time, portal and enterprise solutions, BEA officials said.

The partnership also includes an agreement for the companies to do joint marketing and sales, and for Deloitte to demonstrate BEA-based solutions through Deloitte Consulting Solution Centers globally.

Gray said Deloittes signing could represent “a huge uptake in our portal offering.”
