Global Spree

Global Sports is continuing its push beyond the sporting goods scene, this time striking a deal to acquire luxury goods retailer Ashford.com for about $14.2 million. Global Sports operates the e-commerce Web sites for such retailers as Athletes Foot and The Sports Authority. Last month the company announced it would take over the operation of Kmarts Bluelight.com site.

AMS Names CEO

Consulting firm American Management Systems has announced that Alfred Mockett will become chairman and CEO of the company on Dec. 1. Mockett was CEO of BT Ignite, the broadband and Internet services arm of British Telecommunications. He takes over from Paul Brands, who retired earlier this year. William Purdy, who served as interim CEO and president, retains the presidents title.

About Face

About.com founder Scott Kurnit has been bumped out of the companys CEO chair in the face of dwindling online advertising. Kurnit will remain chairman of the company — which merged with publishing giant Primedia a year ago — but is also stepping down from Primedias board of directors.
