Eighty-six percent of survey respondents said LinkedIn was the social network that matters most—and with 161 million members in more than 200 countries and territories, making it the largest professional network—it’s easy to see why.

      2Dice.com

      2

A career site for technology and engineering professionals, Dice lists more than 85,000 full-time, part-time and contract jobs, with the ability to upload resumes, browse jobs by type, and gain technology news and advice—for job seekers and employers.

      3Facebook

      3

The social networking giant was named the second-most important social media site by recruiters in the survey, cited by 51 percent of respondents. More importantly, Facebook is increasingly used by potential employees to size up a company’s personality and Web presence.

Health care IT represents a major opportunity for potential applicants, with the rise of electronic medical records and bring-your-own-device (BYOD) programs resulting in the need for more robust IT facilitators.

      5Google+

      5

Fledgling social media site Google+ trailed Facebook and LinkedIn for usefulness in finding new talent; however, the search giant is constantly improving the site, and with a total of 170 million registered users, there’s certainly a large pool of people to draw from.

      6Craigslist

      6

It’s not just for used furniture anymore. A quick look at the software positions posting for the San Francisco Bay Area turns up more than 100 available positions, posted in the past two days alone. The New York City page offers jobs in everything from Apple iOS development to entry-level programming.

      7IEEE JobSite

      7

Employers can gain access to more than 2 million engineers, managers and professionals in the technology marketplace, and the site also offers IT career news and advice, resume-building tools and other career resources.

      8Jobserve

      8

First launched in 1993, this IT-focused recruitment service has a global footprint and lists a total of 11,549 tech jobs in the United States, which users can search by company name, specialization or general location. The site also offers a learning zone with courses like Java development and other career-boosting curricula.

      9Monster

      9

Featuring deep integration with social media sites and a wide array of listings, Monster functions as a social site and a destination for job seekers and recruiters. The company itself is in need of many IT professionals, from hardware specialists to software developers.

      10Twitter

      10

Perhaps due to the limited amount of information users can post on microblogging site Twitter, that platform ranked as the least important social network for recruiting, but was still mentioned by 16 percent of respondents. Could you get hired in 140 characters or less?
