Entrust Reorg
Internet security vendor Entrust Technologies last week announced a restructuring under which it plans to eliminate 400 jobs, or 30 percent of its work force, and will focus on three vertical markets: government, financial services and large enterprises. Entrust, based in Plano, Texas, also said it will drop “Technologies” from its name; the company is now simply Entrust.
Storage Pact
The six data storage vendors that are the founding members of the Storage Networking Industry Association — Brocade Communications Systems, Compaq Computer, EMC, Hitachi Data Systems, IBM and McData — last week said they have signed bilateral cooperative agreements to make their storage area network products interoperable.
Big Music Strikes Again
The largest record companies continue to snap up Internet music start-ups: Bertelsmann eCommerce Group bought Myplay, a Net music locker service, for a reported $30 million. Bertelsmann plans to merge Myplay into BeMusic, Bertelsmanns recently formed music division that includes its BMG Direct music club and CDnow Online. BeMusic is also in charge of managing Bertelsmanns strategic deal with Napster.
DoubleClick Buys Marketer
DoubleClick acquired MessageMedia, an e-mail marketing services provider, in a stock deal worth about $41 million. MessageMedia, based in Louisville, Colo., sends 100 million e-mails per month for more than 310 customers, including Cisco Systems, E*Trade Group, Intuit and Kmarts BlueLight.com.
