With potentially its existence on the line, Palm released new specs for its Palm Pre smartphone, the device it hopes will help it reclaim market share from the Apple iPhone and Research In Motion‘s Blackberry devices.

The Pre itself will be released later in 2009, according to the company. Analysts have suggested that anything less than success for the phone in the marketplace may very well result in the implosion of the company, which has lost ground to Apple and RIM over the past few years.

Sprint Nextel has exclusive U.S. rights to sell the Palm Pre through the end of 2009, and announced on March 12 that users of the new smartphone would have a choice of individual, family and business plans. Pricing for the individual Everything Data 450, 900 and Unlimited Plans will start at $69.99 per month, according to reports.

Sprint previewed the phone at the 2009 CTIA in Las Vegas, and has now released the specs for the phone on their site.
