Sun Microsystems Inc. will open a center in Dallas to test Wal-Marts implementation of RFID in its inventory-management system.

Wal-Mart will use the Electronic Product Code compliant RFID technology by January 2005, the company said recently.

Sun makes standards-based RFID middleware software based on its Java Enterprise System.
