A partnership between Sybase and Samsung SDS will base the Samsung SDS Enterprise Mobile Service on the Sybase Unwired Platform.

The Samsung SDS Enterprise Mobile Service “is comprised of a cloud computing technology-based mobile infrastructure and backend integration with various enterprise applications, such as ERP, CRM, SCM, etc.,” said a joint statement released by the companies.

The Sybase Unwired Platform allows users to build, deploy and manage mobile applications. Its features include uniform access to heterogeneous data sources, “from structured and unstructured data to pre-packaged applications,” mobile middleware services, SMS/MMS services for alerting and messaging, and device services, the statement said.

It also includes a unified development tool that provides an integrated environment for the development of mobile applications that link to enterprise databases and associated business processes.

Uniting Samsung SDS Enterprise Mobile Service and Sybase Unwired Platform will theoretically allow a more rapid mobile deployment of Samsung SDS’ services. In addition, the relationship between the two companies includes co-marketing, sales and joint service development.

“Samsung has traditionally been a large-scale integrator. They’re looking for a hosted service to reach small [and midsize] businesses,” Terry Stepien, head of mobile middleware for Sybase, said in an interview.

Sybase has initiated other strategic partnerships in 2009.

In March 2009, SAP and Sybase announced a partnership to deliver mobile solutions for the SAP Business Suite, allowing it to run on the Apple iPhone, Microsoft Windows Mobile, BlackBerry smartphones and other mobile devices.

SAP marketed the mobility under the slogan “Office on the Go.”
