Worldwide handset sales in 2003 totaled 520 million units, according to research firm Gartner. Growth in 2003 exceed expectations with a 20.5 percent increase over 2002. Nokia lead in market share with 34.7 percent of units sold in 2003, followed by Motorola at 14.5 percent.
