The KL0116, Altusens latest LCD KVM console, offers an efficient way for administrators to manage as many as 16 servers in a data center rack.
The $4,495 KL0116, available now, is a compact 1U (1.75-inch) rack-mountable drawer with a built-in 15-inch LCD screen, keyboard, touch-pad and integrated 16-port KVM switch thats easy to install on any standard data center rack.
The KL0116 integrates one of Altusens high-density KVM switches at the back of the drawer. Using analog KVM cables provided by Altusen, I could easily attach server systems to the KL0116.
The KL0116 is designed for managing servers right in the server room. The KL0116 can also be daisy-chained with other KVM solutions from Altusen—including the KN9000 KVM on the Net switch, which uses TCP/IP to allow KVM communications over the LAN or WAN—for sites that want to control their server farms away from the server room.
The KL0116 has an easy-to-navigate on-screen display that allowed us to quickly switch between servers connected. The controls for adjusting the LCDs properties are easily accessible. Although the touch-pad is very responsive, I would like to see a track ball mouse option.
The system includes an RJ-45 port that allows users to control the console remotely.
