Fujitsu Ltd. and Novell Inc. announced Friday an agreement to deliver SuSE Enterprise Linux Server support services for Fujitsus mission-critical Primequest and Primergy server lines.

This follows up on earlier agreements between Fujitsu and Novell to bring Novell SLES (SuSE Linux Enterprise Server) 9 to Fujitsus Primergy BX620 S2 blade server—a four-way system powered by Intel Corp.s Xeon processors—and the single-chip Pentium 4-powered Primergy TX150 S3 tower server.

Fujitsu has a long history of partnering with both SuSE, before it was incorporated into Novell, and Novell itself. In 2000, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, a branch of Fujitsu, entered an agreement with SuSE to deliver and support its enterprise Linux on Primergy servers throughout EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa).

The companies characterized Fridays agreement as extending that historical relationship to encompass worldwide distribution of SLES within the entire Fujitsu Group.

“This agreement with Novell reinforces our commitment to providing customers with high-value solutions on a Linux platform,” Kiyoshi Sensui, Fujitsus general manager of the Linux software development division of the server systems unit, said in a statement.

“Expanding and strengthening the relationship between Novell and Fujitsu promises new benefits for customers,” said Ron Hovsepian, executive vice president and president of worldwide field operations for Novell.

“This is an important step forward in Novells commitment to deliver advanced data center and high-performance computing services on Linux,” said Hovsepian in a statement.
