Thank you very much for Peter Coffees fine piece imagining a world without Windows (“If Windows Had Never Happened…” Nov. 14).

For those of us old enough to remember software vendors specifying which brands of PCs they would support their product on, Microsofts OS domination resulted in a much-needed standard.

I have no problems with those who criticize Microsoft over buggy products, security flaws, pricing and so on. But those who call it the Evil Empire fail to appreciate that the marketplace rewarded Microsoft handsomely for bringing order to the chaos of 20 years ago.
