Just a month after OpenAI wowed the world with Sora 2 and its debut on iOS, the company is back with another big move: Sora has officially arrived on Android.
With less than two months left in 2025, OpenAI is closing out the year with a bang: bringing its powerful generative video tool to millions of new users. Google Play describes the app as “a new kind of creative tool that turns text prompts and images into hyperreal videos with sound.”
From cinematic scenes to anime shorts and viral remixes, Sora turns imagination into motion — if you can write it, you can see it.
Sora finally lands on Android
OpenAI announced Sora’s availability for Android on Nov. 4. In the 24 hours since the app was released, Sora has already seen over 100,000 downloads and counting.
Android’s version of Sora is the same app that hit iOS in late September. However, since both platforms utilize the second iteration of the popular generative AI platform, there are some upgrades and improvements from the original version to consider.
What’s new with Sora 2?
For starters, the development team behind Sora has been training its platform to better simulate the real world. While most modern AI platforms rely on books, magazines, blogs, research papers, and reports to train their AI models, the team with Sora used real videos that are currently found on the internet.
As a result, Sora 2 is more capable than ever. It’s capable of generating realistic gymnast routines, people performing backflips on a paddleboard in the middle of a lake (complete with lifelike buoyancy), rebounding basketballs off a backboard after missed shots, and much more.
Although it’s still capable of making errors here and there, the model has made many improvements when it comes to modeling the laws and effects of physics.
Sora 2 can also create videos in several different artistic styles. According to OpenAI’s original announcement, Sora 2 “excels at realistic, cinematic, and anime styles.” Moreover, users can inject nearly any real-world element into their videos — including themselves, their pets, and any other objects they might have around the house.
Download Sora 2 for Android today
While iOS users enjoyed a brief head start on the new Sora 2 functionality, Android users can now download the platform on their own devices. What comes next for OpenAI and the Sora platform remains to be seen, but there’s no doubt they’ll continue refining, optimizing, and improving their popular AI model for years to come.
